Competition Rules

Please read these rules carefully before entering.


  1. The competition is open to anyone aged 11 or over.

  2. The entry fee for each poem submitted is £1.00.

  3. The closing date of the competition is midnight (UK time) 7th March, 2020.

  4. Applications must be sent as an email attachment to

  5. All entries must be typed and submitted as either an rtf, pdf, doc, or docx document .

  6. Your entry should show only the title and the poem itself, not your personal details such as name or age. Please attach your name, age, poem title and contact details on a document that is separate from your poem.

  7. Entrants can make multiple entries, but no more than 5 entries per entrant.

  8. No alterations can be made to entries after submission.

  9. There are no refunds for withdrawn entries. Entries paid for but not received will be refunded.

  10. We cannot discuss submitted entries, other than to acknowledge receipt.  

  11. PF reserves the right to change the judging panel without notice or to cancel the competition if circumstances require it.

  12. Trustees aren’t eligible to enter the poetry competition.

  13. All entries will be considered anonymously by the judges, whose decision is final.



  1. All entries are judged anonymously and the poet’s name must not appear on the poem itself.

  2. All poems must have a title. No individual poem must exceed 20 lines in length (excluding title). The theme of the poem is Survival.

  3. Poems must be the entrant’s original work.

  4. Entries will not be returned, so please keep a copy.

  5. Entries must not have been published, broadcast, or featured in any format or on any public media before 7th March 2020.

  6. Entries should be typed at a minimum type size of 12pt.

  7. Lines can be single or double spaced.

  8. Fonts should be simple and easy to read. Excessively elaborate fonts may cause your entry to be misread. Fonts such as Calibri, Courier, Times New Roman, Arial, Constantia, Book Antiqua, Palatino, Comic Sans, Trebuchet, Verdana or Tahoma are acceptable.

  9. Entries must be written in English.


Entry Fee

  1. Each entry costs £1.00. Entrants may submit up to five different poems, but must pay the fee per poem.

  2. No more than five poems can be submitted by one entrant.

  3. Fees are payable by PayPal. You do not need to have a PayPal account to make a payment. Cheques are not accepted.

  4. All entries must be accompanied by the entry fee.

  5. You can also pay in cash and register at our drop-in sessions at Home n Away café, Myatts Field Community Centre, 24 Crawshay Road, SW9 6FZ, every Monday 12.00 noon - 2pm.



  1. Winners will be selected by 7th March 2020.

  2. All entrants who provide a valid email address will be notified about the outcome of their entry by 31st March 2020.

  3. The copyright of each poem remains with the author.

  4. By entering the competition, authors grant Platinum Friends the right to publish and/or broadcast their poem in perpetuity and to hold exclusive publication rights for one year, subject to granted permission to the author.
